Among Democrats Frank Kratovil cruised to an early lead, capturing more than 40% of the vote in a four-way race. "I think of all the campaigns that were out there, by far we had the most troops on the ground," he said.
Among those troops was Myra Easton who explained, "I got to know Frank Kratovil and was really just bowled over as to how honest he is...That's something that we just don't see in politicians enough." Mike Cuches, who like many other volunteers manned his post through the cold, snow, sleet, and rain of the day, simply stated, "I believe in him as a candidate." And Karen Ripple, another volunteer who held her post throughout the day's ugly weather, stated "Frank Kratovil generates a level of commitment and loyalty from his volunteers that is truly amazing, until you realize the depth of his honesty, integrity and commitment to making our world a better place."
Unlike the Republican primary, marked by attack ads and infighting, Kratovil vowed to run a clean race in the general election. "You treat your opponents with respect. I hope we can have a debate on the issues," he said.
